Maryland Adure LLC presents: the Juneteenth Collection...

Juneteenth, Freedom Day, is an African American holiday recognized as the emancipation of the last remaining enslaved of the Confederacy. Despite the fact that the emancipation proclamation, which is legislation that declared all persons held as slaves within the rebellious states to be free, was signed on January 1, 1863, union soldiers did not arrive to read the proclamation until June 19, 1865. The news of the proclamation, given 2 years later, ended the war and officially abolished slavery in all states. As a result, African Americans across the nation recognize June 19th as Freedom Day.
